From June 25th to July 1st, the players will meet at the 2023 Eastbourne International in one of the most star-studded WTA 500 tournaments.
While the World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has decided to compete in Bad Homburg, and World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka has decided to have a free week before Wimbledon, the rest of the Top 10 made their way to Eastbourne to create a star-studded draw for the WTA 500 tournament.
The last three champions of the event in Eastbourne are Petra Kvitova, Jelena Ostapenko, and Karolina Pliskova, who won it twice. And it will be the two most recent champions Kvitova and Ostapenko who will meet in a blockbuster first-round match of two former champions and two former Grand Slam winners.
On the other hand, Pliskova, who isn't seeded in Eastbourne, will start against Elise Mertens from Belgium in the first round, with a potential second-round match with either the sixth-seeded Maria Sakkari from Greece or Anhelina Kalinina from Ukraine.
But all eyes will be on the top seed in Eastbourne. At the previous WTA 500 event in Berlin, the reigning Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina, lost to Donna Vekic, and she will want to forget that loss in the first round against one of the qualifiers.
Beatriz Haddad Maia was one of the unlucky players in the past few weeks. After her Top 10 breakthrough, the Brazilian was forced to withdraw from multiple events due to an injury. Now, she's back as the eighth seed in Eastbourne and will start against always dangerous Marie Bouzkova in the first round.
American players will also compete in Eastbourne. The third-seeded Jessica Pegula will start against Qinwen Zheng, while the fifth-seeded Coco Gauff will meet another fellow American Bernarda Pera. The two doubles partners can meet in an all-American duel in the quarterfinals if they both win their first two matches.
Another interesting first-round match will be played between two Roland Garros finalists as the fourth-seeded Ons Jabeur will clash with Marketa Vondrousova. Taking a wild card into the event, the second-seeded Caroline Garcia will start against one of the qualifiers.
