2022 San Diego Open promises to be a spectacular event as almost all players from the Top 20 of the WTA Rankings are featured on the entry list of the WTA 500 event that will run from October 10th through 16th.
Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, Simona Halep and Belinda Bencic are the only four players from the Top 20 of the WTA Rankings that will not play at the 2022 San Diego Open, unless they accept a wild-card later on. As it stands, only players from the Top 20 are present on the entry list and so it should be a really exclusive event full of high-quality tennis.
For the first time since 2010, WTA 500 event returns to San Diego, when Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Agnieszka Radwanska last time the event was held. A lot of big names won the event in the past as the list includes Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Steffi Graf, Billie Jean King and many more.
This year, new stars will hit courts at the San Diego Open as world number 1, Iga Swiatek leads the list. She will be joined by likes of Anett Kontaveit, Paula Badosa and Aryna Sabalenka. But also American players will be present at the event as Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins, Madison Keys and Sofia Kenin, who is using a protected ranking will all play at the 2022 San Diego Open.
