2022 Parma Open will be held from September 26th until October 2nd and for a long time it seemed that there will be no Top 30 player in the draw.
Home player Martina Trevisan was the highest-ranked player that signed up for the 2022 Parma Open, but world number 6, Maria Sakkari received a wild-card and so she's the top-seeded player at one of a very few clay-court events in the second part of the season
The top-seeded Greek will start against one of the qualifiers and on the other side of the draw, no. 2 Martina Trevisan will begin against Sara Sorribes Tormo. Coco Gauff won the event last year and there are Americans in the draw also this year.
There's also one Grand Slam champion and that is one of the two American players, Sloane Stephens. Lately, the 2017 US Open champion hasn't played a lot of tennis as she has a negative record in 2022, but she spoke about some important topics such as online abuse. The fourth-seeded Sloane Stephens will begin her tournament against Magdalena Frech from Poland.
Some interesting first-round clashes include meeting of Nuria Parrizas Diaz and Elisabetta Cocciaretto but also the home wild-card Sara Errani, who will take on Lauren Davis.
