Following two successful tournaments, the WTA Tour will return to the Ostrava Open in 2022. It will be held from October 3 through October 9 and feature a star-studded draw.
Anett Kontaveit defeated Maria Sakkari last year while Iga Swiatek and Petra Kvitova were semifinalists, and in 2020, Aryna Sabalenka upset fellow countrywoman Victoria Azarenka in the championship match. The bulk of these players are also included in the draw for the 2022 Ostrava Open.
Iga Swiatek is the top-seeded player in Ostrava and therefore she is granted a BYE to start her tournament in the second round. Her opponent will be a qualifier or Shuai Zhang and so the young Pole will try to continue her winning that she started at the last Grand Slam of the season.
The event will feature a lot of Grand Slam champions and Petra Kvitova, who received a wild-card is one of them. The Czech will play against a qualifier in the first round and if she succeeds, she will meet the second-seeded Paula Badosa in the second.
Fans in Ostrava can see a match between two Grand Slam champions already in the second round. Elena Rybakina will play against Madison Keys and the winner of this match will play against the eight-seeded Jelena Ostapenko or Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Barbora Krejcikova is another Grand Slam champion in the draw and she will begin against Shelby Rogers. 2021 US Open winner, Emma Raducanu play against no. 5, Daria Kasatkina in the first round and winner of this match can meet yet another Grand Slam champion, Victoria Azarenka as the Belarusian plays against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
