Holger Rune hired Boris Becker as coach recently, and they'll continue next year, and Alexander Zverev gave his verdict on the pairing.
It was a rather strange pairing because nobody really saw it coming. Becker didn't have any tennis appointment at the time, so he was available, but he hasn't been in coaching for a while, so a sudden return seemed unlikely.
It looked even less likely to be with Rune, who parted with Patrick Mouratoglou pretty recently. Everybody just assumed that he would go back to his old coach, but no, he actually threw a curveball going with Becker.
It wasn't a bad decision as he started to play better, something he said was due to Becker. Some have already pointed out how they are a pretty good match, and Zverev certainly thinks it's a pairing that can work.
He knows Becker pretty well and considers him one of the best tennis experts on the ATP Tour. Zverev spoke to SkySports Germany, and he gave his verdict on the pairing.
He's just a tennis expert. He understands tennis, he knows what it means to be at the top, he knows how to get there. I think he can help Holger a lot too.
Becker's reputation took a pretty big hit with his sentencing, but for Zverev, that doesn't matter. None of that had to do anything with tennis, and when it comes to tennis, there are very few people who know it as well as Becker does.
But that has nothing to do with sports. From a sporting point of view, he is simply one of the greatest experts in tennis.
Another thing Zverev mentioned in his talk about Becker was possibly working with him in the future. It's definitely something he would be willing to explore in the future because they know each other well.
Yes. But that won't happen in the near future. He's busy. It's not possible now.
