Australia defeated the Netherlands to book a spot in the Davis Cup semi-finals and Hewitt talked about Nick Kyrgios after their win.
When the Australian finished competing at the ATP Finals, he decided not to represent his nation in the Davis Cup. Hewitt was questioned about Kyrgios when Thanasi Kokkinakis, his teammate, was there and prepared to represent his nation.
“Well, obviously we would have loved to have Nick play. You know, he's had an incredible year and not played that many tournaments, to be honest," said Hewitt carefully choosing his words.
Yeah, we all know the capability of how he can play high-level tennis when he's motivated," added Hewitt. The country would have been in a very great position if they had Kyrgios possibly winning the event. Still Hewitt rallied the troops and it worked for now:
“For us not to have him here, we put that aside and we try and come together, and we've got a good group of guys here that are willing to do the hard yards and put their hand up for their country, and I couldn't be prouder of all of them."
