Alexander Zverev ended his semifinal match at the 2022 Roland Garros in a very sad way as the German twisted his ankle before the second set tie-break.
At the 2022 Roland Garros, Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev had a remarkable semifinal match while the second set was still undecided and the players had already spent 3 hours on the court. The Spaniard won the last crucial point in the eleventh game of the second tie-break to force the second tie-break after more than 3 hours, but not in the way he expected.
Alexander Zverev injured his ankle while racing for a ball and quickly fell to the ground, crying in pain. His opponent ran over to see if he was okay, but it was clear from his loud screams that he was in a lot of agony. Soon after, medics with a wheelchair appeared on the court and wheeled the German off the court to assess his injury. He soon returned to the court, announcing that he can not continue anymore.
After the match, his opponent praised his performance and wished him a speedy recovery, saying: "Very sad for him. Honestly, he was playing unbelievable tournament. He's a very good colleague on the court. I know how much he's fighting to win a Grand Slam and right now he was very unlucky. But I know he's going to win not one, but many and I wish him fast recovery."
