Lorenzo Musetti was quite known for his signature longer hairstyle but that's gone now as the Italian debuted a much shorter haircut at the 2023 Canadian Open in Toronto.
It was a good start for Musetti in Toronto as he defeated Yoshihito Nishioka in the opening round of the Canadian Open. Besides putting together a really strong showing on the court, Musetti also showed off a new haircut, one that fans on the ATP Tour weren't used to seeing from him in recent season.
It's far from what we've gotten used to from him over the years, as he generally sported a longish haircut for much of that time. It gave him a signature Italian flair which is also visible in his playstyle, a very elegant way of hitting the ball. Speaking his opening match at the 2023 Canadian Open on the Tennis Channel, Musetti explained the decision to opt for a shorter cut.
"It's been quite a long time, that I didn't make the decision to shorten my hair. But in Italy, it was so hot, I couldn't move with the ponytail, because I had messy hair, and I didn't like [it]."
"So, I finally decided with my girlfriend, and she approved. And I think I look a little bit younger. With the long hair, I looked a little bit older. And I'm prepared for the humidity, and I won't sweat so much."
As he explained it was quite hot, the girlfriend approved so he got it done. It certainly didn't hurt his tennis as he was quite amazing in his first-ever appearance in Toronto. The win sends him to the next round where he'll play Thanasi Kokkinakis who defeated Zhizhen Zhang. It's a pretty strong part of the draw and the match itself promises to be a really good one.
