Maxime Cressy was hoping to have a good run at the 2022 Wimbledon after defeating the sixth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round.
However, in the second round, he faced a fellow American, Jack Sock who came through the qualifying and won 10 sets in a row before the all-American meeting in the second round of the 2022 Wimbledon.
The match started already on Thursday, when Sock won the first two sets 6-4, 6-4 and after it started raining, the match was postponed until Friday. On Friday, it seemed that Cressy might get back to the match as he won the second set 6-3 and was serving for a set.
Cressy got the break in the first game of the fourth set and he had two breakpoints when he was up 5-4, 40-15. But Sock won 4 points in a row and broke his serve. However, Cressy managed to get another break and was serving for the set once again.
But he failed to finish the set off once again and the tie-break went in the worst possible way for the tall American. He lost the first six points and after winning his only point of the tie-break and before facing another 5 match points, he got really angry and looked towards his box, when he said:
"I'll quit this sport after this match. I quit this sport. Why am I even here?"
