Novak Djokovic is battling for a spot in the fourth round of the 2023 Roland Garros, and as always, he's really passionate about the match.
The 36-year-old always battles on the tennis court and by doing so, he also shows respect to his opponents, who are most of the time ranked lower on the ATP Tour. Djokovic isn't afraid to celebrate, but sometimes, the crowd just doesn't like it.
At this year's Roland Garros, it happened to the Serb when he celebrated against Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round and was booed as a result, but he isn't the only victim of the booing from the French crowd.
In one of the night matches on Thursday, Taylor Fritz was booed for over a minute after a massive celebration that included a lot of 'shushing' of the crowd in Paris. One day later, the second-seeded Djokovic experienced something very similar.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion is battling against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina from Spain, and it's a real battle for him as the Spaniard plays a great match. As a result, in nearly three hours, only two sets were played, both victorious for Djokovic in a tie-break.
After he won the second set, the Serb massively celebrated the fact that he will have a two-set cushion against the dangerous opponent, but the crowd didn't seem to enjoy his celebration, which was maybe a bit cheekily directed toward them.
A few seconds later, Djokovic requested the physio as he needed help with his left leg and as the umpire Nico Helwerth announced to the fans on the Court Philippe-Chatrier that Djokovic will be receiving treatment during the medical time out, the crowd started booing, with the Serb prompting them to be even louder as he received the treatment.
But only recently, the Serb said that not having a drama-free Grand Slam drives him and so maybe the incident will drive him even further to push through the rounds in the French capital.
