WATCH: Djokovic Arrives In Valencia In A Bid To Help Serbia At Davis Cup

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Novak Djokovic is in Valencia a few days after winning the US Open to try and help Serbia qualify for the knockout stage of the Davis Cup Finals.

There is no time to rest or celebrate for Novak Djokovic, who promised to play for Serbia in the Davis Cup earlier this year. He flew from New York to Belgrade to celebrate his US Open win with his countrymen and took part in a joint celebration for him and the Serbian Basketball Team that won the silver medal at the recent World Championship.

He was very emotional during that celebration, but it was a short one because he already touched down in Valencia today. He will play on Friday and Saturday against the Czech Republic and Spain to try and help Serbia secure a spot in the knockout stage of the Davis Cup Finals.

He confirmed that plan a few days ago during an appearance on ESPN after his US Open win, and today he was greeted by Davis Cup director Feliciano Lopez. Serbia made a good start, beating Korea 3-0 in the first match, and now they just need to finish the job.

Having Djokovic there will certainly boost the team's spirits, as he's expected to deliver some points on the court as well. It will be interesting to see how well Djokovic plays after that exhausting Cincinnati - US Open stretch, but even when he's not 100 %, he's still better than most players.

Djokovic will likely take an extended break after this event, skipping over the Asian part of the calendar, though that hasn't been confirmed yet. For now, he's in Valencia, and he looks to be in great spirits, which you can see in the video below.

He's expected to take the courts on Friday first and then on Saturday as well.
