Novak Djokovic was invited to participate in the Ryder Cup celebrity all-star match this week and shared a video of his arrival at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy.
The Ryder Cup, a biennial men's golf tournament, last played in 2021, will kick off the 44th edition of matches on Friday, September 29th where Europe will look to preserve their unbeaten record against the United States on their patch for precisely 30 years.
But before the big battleground, a precursor to the event will involve celebrities from the world of sports, music, and cinema competing in an all-star match. 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic was pumped for the occasion and shared a sneak peek of his arrival in Italy for the event.
"Buongiorno Roma, very excited for tomorrow."
Round-the-clock coverage of the event will be telecast live on Ryder Cup's official YouTube channel where Djokovic isn't the only biggest name on the golf course. Retired footballers Gareth Bale and Andriy Shevchenko are also part of the star-studded line-up.
Ferrari's Formula One driver Carlos Sainz, Hollywood actor Kathryn Newton, and Italian surfer Leonardo Fioravanti are also among those partaking at the event.
Djokovic has taken a leave of absence from tennis since winning a record-tying 24th Grand Slam at the US Open a few weeks ago. He was also instrumental in steering his country into the Davis Cup Final 8 just a few days later.
The Serbian has elected to give this year's Asian swing amiss, withdrawing from the Shanghai Masters that begins next week. In his absence, Carlos Alcaraz has the chance to surpass him in the ATP Race, which tallies points earned in 2023.
The Spaniard can also cut Djokovic's huge lead in the ATP rankings next month. The next time we will see Djokovic on a tennis court will be at the Paris Masters at the end of October.
