Ben Shelton has a cannon in his arm, and he proved it once more by shattering the record for the fastest serve ever at the Wimbledon Championships.
Shelton demonstrated fairly early in his career that he has a huge serve that is both precise and powerful. His breakout run in Australia had everybody gushing about how well he served in those ten days, and it was only a preview of what was to come in the future.
Since then, the American has proved that there is more to his game than just the serve, but the serve will always be a staple of his game. It could carry him far, and he could even break a few records.
He broke one of those records at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships during his second-round match against Lloyd Harris. The American served a cannon in the fourth set, which was measured at 153 mph (246 km/h).
According to the record tables, that's the fastest-ever serve at Wimbledon. The previous record was originally held by none other than serving legend Sam Groth, whose serve was once measured at 147 mph.
Groth also has the fastest serve ever recorded at 163 mph, but with the way Shelton has been serving, don't be surprised if the American shatters that once in the future as well.
Those types of serves are not normal and don't happen often, but Shelton pulled it off, and it's the fastest ever at SW19. His serve is also the 9th fastest serve ever recorded.
However, to really rank in the record tables, the speed first has to be recognized by the ATP, as there were multiple instances of serves being measured incorrectly, such as John Isner's 292.7 mph (471 km/h) serve, which obviously, never happened, but that's what the radar gun showed.
