Grand Slam champion Dominic Thiem recently named Alcaraz, Tiafoe and Sinner as players that will succeed the big three.
Following his elimination from the Tel Aviv Open, Thiem travelled to Vienna where he attended the Erste Bank Open's presentation event. The event is a popular event that will host some of the players Thiem mentioned in his talk as he explained why he believes they are the ones to take over.
"Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner or Tiafoe, changed the game of tennis, accelerated it, raised it to a new level. Compared to them, the legendary three are or were almost defensive and cautious." said Thiem making a fair point about the newer generation playing a lot more aggressively that the older ones.
Tennis players on both the ATP and WTA circuits are playing much harder and more aggressively than in years past, which is a general trend in the sport. Theim also mentioned the Erste Bank Open in passing, expressing delight for the talented field:
"The field is sensational but I'm competitive again, I've achieved that goal. I certainly don't see myself as a finalist."
The Erste Bank Open starts on on October 24th and runs till the 30th.
