While it's still not clear if the Russian and Belarusian players will be able to compete at the 2022 Wimbledon or if the tournament will keep the ranking points, Novak Djokovic said that boycotting the tournament is not the best option.
Many players including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Stefanos Tsitsipas or Alexander Zverev expressed their disagreement with the decision of All England Club to ban Russian and Belarusian players from the 2022 Wimbledon. This would mean that ATP Top 10 member Daniil Medvedev and WTA Top 10 member Aryna Sabalenka and many more wouldn't be able to fight for the trophy at the only grass-court Grand Slam tournament of the season.
As the disagreement with the decision has been voiced out really loudly by some of the players, the possibility of boycotting tournament appeared as it could be also played as some kind of an exhibition event without points. However, in a recent interview, Novak Djokovic said that this should not be an option.
“Athletes are here to do sports. If we expel them from sports just because they come from a certain country, that is a bad decision. We need communication with Wimbledon."
"I am not involved in player politics like I was 10 years ago and I do not talk to the representatives of Wimbledon – but they told me that they are very strict. [A] boycott is a very aggressive thing – as well as that there are much better solutions.”
