Novak Djokovic won last year's Tel Aviv Open, but the ATP 250 event won't return in 2023 due to the situation in Israel, which escalated a few days ago.
The tennis event in Tel Aviv was held with great success last year as it secured Novak Djokovic's coming to the country. The Serbian played an amazing event, winning the trophy in the end but we won't see anybody lifting the trophy this year.
The event has been called off due to the situation in Israel, prompting the country to ban all sporting events until further notice. The event was initially supposed to be held at the start of November, but not it won't happen for obvious reasons.
The ATP hasn't officially named which event the Tel Aviv Open will be replaced by, though there was a weird situation surrounding the even that should replace the Israeli tournament.
On the official ATP website, where all the events and the full calendar are displayed, the event was replaced by the Sofia Open, but not long after that, it was removed.
Currently, we don't know which event will replace the event because it says TBC, which refers to 'to be confirmed.'
The Sofia Open has been part of the ATP calendar for a while, and players are quite familiar with it, so it wouldn't be strange to see that event replace the Tel Aviv Open.
One thing is for sure, whatever event replaces the Watergen Open will be an indoor event, and it will be an ATP 250 event. It's the final week of the season, basically, as the ATP Finals start immediately after that event ends.
The event will run from November 5th till the 11th, and we'll see whether it will be the Sofia Open or some other tournament. For now, we await the decision of the ATP, as no official decision has been made yet, despite the Bulgarian tournament already being displayed for a moment.
