Taylor Fritz thinks that Serena Williams and Roger Federer's retirements will have an impact on a lot of people because these two former World No. 1s likely have the most fans in the sport.
Wiliams retired recently at the US Open and it was a hard pill for many tennis fans to swallow. An even more bitter one came not long after as Roger Federer announced his retirement. Fritz was there for Williams' retirement and he will be there for the retirement of Federer as well.
Speaking at the Laver Cup conference, the American noted:
"I mean, I think it is going to be tough on a lot of fans, because Serena and Roger probably have, you know, more fans than anybody in tennis. But, you know, there's so many more players" adding some more commentary:
"I think tennis is becoming so much more entertaining because you're seeing so many new people win. You know, I think it's really exciting that going into these big events there is 10 different people that could potentially win"
Some have alluded that many fans could abandon the game after those legendary players leave the game but Fritz hopes that doesn't happen:
"You know, hopefully their fans stay in the sport, want to keep watching. I think it's tough to replace two people as iconic as them, but, you know, I still think there is a lot of exciting times ahead for tennis."
