Sinner Signs Up For First Doubles Tournament Since 2023 Davis Cup Win

Jannik Sinner has been in very good form in the opening two months of the new season, winning in all 12 singles matches he has contested.

Sinner bagged the Australian Open title last month, his first Grand Slam, and added a second trophy at last week's Rotterdam Open. He has now won 25 of his last 27 matches in all competitions since the back end of last season.

But the 22-year-old is going to switch things in his next tournament, which will be in California in the United States. Sinner will be among the favorites to win the first Masters 1000 of 2024 in Indian Wells, which begins on March 6th.

Last year, Sinner lost in the semifinal to Carlos Alcaraz. He was made to wait until the North American summer to get his hands on his first Masters crown in Canada when he defeated Alex de Minaur to win in Toronto.

Ahead of this return to North America for the spring season, Sinner has signed up to play in the singles and doubles competitions. It will be his first doubles tournament since the Davis Cup semifinal tie against Serbia.

Sinner will team up with his Davis Cup teammate Lorenzo Sonego in the desert. The pair completed a stunning win over the Novak Djokovic-led Serbian team in Malaga last year. Italy would go on to trounce Australia in the final to win its first Davis Cup since 1976.

The San Candido native is one of many ATP stars who have entered the doubles draw in Indian Wells. Given the gap between his triumph in Rotterdam and his next tournament, it makes complete sense for Sinner to get some minutes in doubles while at the same time acclimatizing to the court conditions.

Alexander Zverev is also playing doubles in Indian Wells. He will partner with his good friend, Marcelo Melo, while Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev will also join forces in doubles.
