Jannik Sinner experienced some abdominal discomfort during his match against Andrey Rublev at the 2024 Australian Open, and he addressed it after the match.
Sinner has played a really strong event so far, making his way to the semi-finals by beating Andrey Rublev in three sets. It was an almost perfect match except for some minor trouble in the second set and an injury scare, which looked worrying.
Cameras picked up Sinner touching his abdomen quite a few times during the second set, which also caused some concern among his team.
We saw both his coaches kind of on the edge, looking towards him as he kept playing. The second set was his weakest event, though he managed to pull it out in the tiebreak.
The third set was a pretty decent one. Sinner stopped touching his abdomen, confirming after the match that he didn't feel anything. He's hopeful that this will continue in the next match, as he told Eurosport.
"I don't know. It was a little a bit of air in that side. I don't know what exactly it is, so we have to check. But it went away with a little bit of time, and in the third set, I didn't feel anything, so I'm hopeful it's going to be okay."
The next match is obviously against Novak Djokovic, which is a complicated match and one where he'll need to get healthy if he hopes to win. He's beaten Djokovic before, but if he's limited with an abdominal injury, it's not likely to work out in his favor.
We'll see what happens in their semifinal match, which will be played on Friday, as Sinner didn't say much about the injury. He hinted at things being fine but used the word hopeful, which doesn't convey certainty.
