Jannik Sinner had a relatively soft landing in Paris winning his first match at this year's Roland Garros in three sets.
There was a lot of curiosity surrounding the 22-year-old ahead of Roland Garros because we hadn't seen him for a few weeks, and the last time he played, he dealt with a hip injury.
The hip injury wasn't minor either, as some reports indicated that Sinner was advised not to play in Roland Garros. He did, however, travel to Paris and played a match, which he won.
It was a fairly straightforward affair that saw him win in three sets, and after the match, he confirmed what many were itching to know - the hip was fine. Speaking with Marion Bartoli after the match, Sinner shed light on his current physical state.
"The hip is good. I’m happy. I’m glad my team and myself were working hard to be on court as soon as possible. Without the team it isn’t possible. The general shape isn’t 100% yet. We try to build every day."
Sinner once again admitted that he's not 100% in shape, which is normal after overcoming an injury. He likely didn't really practice too hard while nursing the hip back to health, but that's something that can be taken care of by playing matches, and he has motivation to play those, given the special atmosphere at Roland Garros.
"This is a special tournament. Thanks everyone that supported. It was amazing. A roof closed for the first time on Suzanne. So I’m very happy."
The Italian admitted that he was not 100% before the event as well, but as we saw, it didn't really bother him. He moved fairly well, the shots were working well from both sides, and he served really well under a lot of pressure. All in all, it was about as good a start as he could have hoped for.
