Shelton & Monfils Lead List Of Players Completing Laver Cup Line-Ups

The final line-up for the 2023 Laver Cup has been completed after captains Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe added the last set of players.

The sixth edition of the Laver Cup will be played at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, from September 22nd to 24th. The teams alternate hosting the popular exhibition and this time, it's Team World's turn.

Coming to Vancouver, John McEnroe's team will certainly be motivated, given that last year, they won their first-ever Laver Cup, beating Team Europe 13-8 in London's O2 Arena.

Last year's event was marked by Roger Federer's retirement, with all of the legends present. This year, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal won't compete at the tournament, and while Federer will be present, it obviously won't be in a playing capacity.

In the absence of these legends in Team Europe, McEnroe will attempt to lead Team World to another triumph after last year's success.

Prior to the last player announcement, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Felix Auger-Aliassime were already part of the team. McEnroe now announced the last three players: Tommy Paul, Francisco Cerundolo, and Ben Shelton.

Paul was one of the players who witnessed last year's win, and he's happy to join Team World at the Laver Cup this year, too.

"I had a front row seat and supported my Team World teammates to victory in London, and I’m pumped that this year in Vancouver, I will be able to step on court at Rogers Arena and directly contribute to the outcome."

Borg selected a relatively young line-up for Team Europe, with Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Andrey Rublev as confirmed players before his last announcement.

The Swedish coach has now announced that Hubert Hurkacz and Gael Monfils will complete the Team Europe line-up for the 2023 edition of the tournament. For Monfils, it will be his debut at the tournament, and he will try to help his team win.

"I’ve never been part of the Laver Cup before and to be selected at this stage in my career is really such a privilege. I want to thank Bjorn for giving me this opportunity. I plan to make the most of it for myself and the team!"
