Roger Federer to play only 1 match at Laver Cup and it's not singles

Roger Federer won't play more than one match at this year's Laver Cup as he revealed when speaking to the Swiss Press.

At the 2022 Laver Cup, the 20-time Grand Slam champion will step on the tennis court for the last time in his professional career and it should be during a doubles match on Friday, most likely alongside his rival and very good friend, Rafael Nadal. Rules of the event state that every player must play at least one singles match and so the Swiss Maestro will probably withdraw from the Laver Cup after his doubles match.

Then, Matteo Berrettini, who is the alternate for Team Europe, would replace Roger Federer in the team and he will need to play at least one singles match. According to journalist Simon Häring, the Swiss Maestro stated that he wants to play only one doubles match on Friday and won't compete in singles.

"Roger Federer told the Swiss Press, that his goal is to play Doubles on Friday on an «acceptable level». He won't play Singles. Friday will be his final match as a professional," Simon Häring tweeted.
