Novak Djokovic failed to beat Jannik Sinner a few days ago at the 2023 ATP Finals but let's find out if he can do it now, in the final.
Djokovic and Sinner have played a few times so far, and it wasn't until recently that Sinner was finally able to win a match against the Serbian. It's been an interesting matchup but also one that showed the difference in maturity between the players.
Djokovic mostly won matches because he found a way to navigate Sinner's tremendous talent. The matchup is a fascinating one generally because it has a player who is a tremendous ball striker in Sinner take on one of the best all-around tennis players we've ever had.
The match they played a few days ago was their 4th overall. It was the first time Sinner actually beat Djokovic, and it was a wonderful match. We're expecting something similar in a final, but I do think that Djokovic will be far better prepared this time around.
Sinner gave him all in that match, and Djokovic didn't find the proper way to respond, but it was still close. The final set finished in a tiebreak, and that's very good news for the Serbian. The previous three victories also showcase that it's a matchup he can handle well.
When it comes to the match itself, I just think that Djokovic will be able to find a higher level than Sinner. It's been a dream week for Sinner, but beating Djokovic twice in a few days seems very unlikely to me.
he Serbian showed another level against Alcaraz, especially when it mattered most, and I think that can also happen in the final. Sinner can win the match of course but I'm not sold that he will.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in two sets.
