Novak Djokovic's family has issued the promised statement about his Belgrade-based Tennis Center Novak which was returned to the city of Belgrade.
The Tennis Center Novak in Belgrade was built and owned by Novak Djokovic and his family however, they no longer own the land and facilities. Reports about the tennis complex being returned to the city of Belgrade shocked many with Serbian media asking Djokovic to comment.
He refused to comment during the Italian Open press conferences promising to release a statement on the matter explaining what the decision was made. The official statement has been released by the Djokovic's family since and it reads:
The company Tara 2016 S, owned by Novak and Jelena Djokovic, made a decision to return the land and facilities within the Tennis Center Novak in Dorcol to the City of Belgrade. We considered it for a long time and made the not-so-easy decision to stop working and managing the land, facilities and overseeing the tennis oasis after more than ten years. It is with great gratitude that we return the land to the City of Belgrade.
Besides maintaining a healthy tennis career, Novak Djokovic has many off-court pursuits as well. The 22-time Grand Slam owns properties in several countries as well as companies in his native Serbia and abroad. His business career is not widely due to his tennis being historically prolific.
His most recent tennis adventures saw him play pretty solid tennis in Rome though his exit came against Holger Rune. The Serbian remains confident about his Roland Garros chances, especially with the recent withdrawal of Nadal from the event. When it comes to his company, the statement confirmed that the company will focus on other projects.
We would like to thank all competent representatives of the local self-government, the City of Belgrade, the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Sports, the Tennis Association of Serbia, numerous companies for their enormous help and support during all the previous years.
The management board of our company will focus its work on new projects, some of which will continue to deal with the tennis development of children and youth. The public will be informed about this in a timely manner.
