Nick Kyrgios spoke about the upcoming 2023 Australian Open and the return of Novak Djokovic to the tournament.

Kyrgios, who had a history confrontations with Djokovic, also spoke about their past and that he supported the 21-time Grand Slam champion when it mattered. He praised the Serbian tennis star, calling him the best player in the world and expressing excitement at the prospect of facing him in the Australian Open.

“He’s healthy, ready to play and put on a show for our fans and for our country - we’re very lucky to have him,” Kyrgios said in an interview with 7news. “Look, he’s the best player in the world in my opinion. I’m glad we’re welcoming him back to come in and show what a great tennis player he is. I feel like no tournament is a full-strength tournament without Novak Djokovic in it."

Djokovic, a 21-time Grand Slam champion, will be making his return to the Australian Open after being deported from the country last year. The Australian spoke also about their relationship, when he said:

“The media tends to set the tone and they kinda created a narrative we didn’t really like each other. But Novak knows I was the only person to really stand up for him when a real-life issue occurred," Kyrgios said. "I feel like the respect, that when someone does that for you, when they talk about you and stand up for you in front of a whole nation, that’s when respect’s gained, not on how you behave on a tennis court towards each other.”

The Australian Open is set to take place in January 2023, and with Djokovic back in the mix, it promises to be an exciting tournament. As one of the top players in the world, Kyrgios will no doubt be looking to make a strong showing and prove his worth against the likes of Djokovic and other top competitors. It will be interesting to see how the Australian Open unfolds and who will come out on top in what is sure to be a highly competitive tournament.
