Nadal Returns To Mallorca After Productive Preseason In Kuwait

| by Nurein Ahmed

Rafael Nadal completed a very important week of his preseason training in Kuwait ahead of his 2024 tennis return and has now gone back to his home island of Mallorca.

The Spanish legend made the trip to the Middle East, where he established a state-of-the-art academy of his own in Kuwait and used it as a base for his preparations for what could be a farewell season in 2024.

Nadal has been out of action for a considerable amount of time. Throughout his career, he has managed to overcome many niggling injuries to great effect, but none of them were as physically and mentally challenging as the hip injury he sustained in January 2023.

Nadal had to write off the entire 2023 campaign to seek treatment after suffering a second-round defeat at last season's Australian Open. It was in May when he learned that surgery would be the only choice if he intends to extend his career for at least one more year.

After undergoing successful surgery in June, Nadal has returned to the training courts in a bid to get his fitness up to the standards required to compete consistently on tour. His first tennis tournament of the upcoming season will be the ATP 250 in Brisbane, which officially begins on December 31, 2023.

In a series of posts on his Instagram, Nadal has shared regular updates of his trip in Kuwait with pictures of his practice sessions where he had been training with French Next Gen star Arthur Fils, a runner-up at the recently-concluded Next Gen ATP Finals in Saudi Arabia.

"Thank you for all your kindness and hospitality. Always great to be around with you and your people. It's always fantastic to be here in Kuwait where we are welcomed and treated in a very special way."

"Hi all. Back at home in Mallorca, wanted to share with you all some pictures of my stay in Kuwait these past days. Great week of work!"
