Matteo Berrettini Talks Difficulty Of Being 'Celebrity'

Matteo Berrettini is one of the best tennis players in the world and obviously, as a consequence, he's quite well known.

Depending on where you fall on the scale of privacy mattering it could be something you enjoy or something you detest. Berrettini is not entirely sold on being a celebrity as he grew up without being one so getting recognized and talked about was something he had to get used to. He called the experience of being a celebrity, not easy.

Yes it's different, when you go out for dinner or you just have a walk in the city, it's a little bit different. We have to get used to it. I feel like sometimes to rest, it's not easy. Like you're always hiding or taking pictures or signing stuff.

He saw the negative side of it recently when his new relationship became all people talked about. From the age gap to the poor results on the court following it; every single detail was dissected by the media and it got tiresome pretty quickly.

He defended his relationship by explaining that it was not affecting him negatively. In the end, though he's happy about the support from fans, even when they express frustration and overanalyze things related to his private life.

In the end, I'm glad because they show me a lot of support, a lot of love and that gives me a lot of energy.

His return to Monte Carlo was good with a solid win over Maxime Cressy. He's happy with the win, particularly the way he returned against a very good server. The hope now is that he can keep things going in order to find some form.

I think it was a really good performance. In general, first round is never easy, especially against Maxime [Cressy]. At the end, I'm really happy. I think I returned well when I had to and I was really solid on my service game which was the key.
