Korda Considers Himself One Of Wimbledon Favourites Despite Injury Hiatus

| by Zlatko Vodenicharov

Sebastian Korda is very confident about his grass prowess as he aims to improve upon a career-best 4th round at Wimbledon.

Korda hasn't played that much tennis this year, competing in only 16 matches on the ATP Tour, though he was pretty good when he did. Roland Garros wasn't a good experience as struggled to find his rhythm on clay this year losing three of the four matches he played.

Grass has looked much better for him generally and this year. He's 8-4 on the surface in his career with a couple of those coming this year at the Cinch Championships. A win over Dan Evans in the first round and a win over the in-form Frances Tiafoe who triumphed in Stuttgart recently prove his comfortability on the surface.

Korda unfortunately missed Wimbledon last year leaving his 2021 run as his best-ever showing at the event. He scored a couple of good wins making his to the 4th round where Karen Khachanov ultimately proved better. The goal for this year is quite clear. He wants to improve upon that and he's confident about doing so.

Yeah, I do. I'm very confident in myself on the grass court. I move really well and definitely have a game that not very many people have. I'm an aggressive player, I like to come to the net, I have good hands, and I definitely feel as if I'm one of the favorites at Wimbledon.

Those are some pretty bold words from Korda who certainly has the talent to back them up. He had a fabulous start this year almost beating Djokovic in the Adelaide final and making the Australian Open quarter-final after that.

He was forced to retire against Khachanov but defeated Medvedev in the 3rd round comfortably proving that he has big wins in him. Now it's about stepping onto the Wimbledon courts and actually doing it.
