Jannik Sinner and Grigor Dimitrov will meet in Paris, playing for a spot in the 2024 Roland Garros semi-final.
The Italian player has been absolutely amazing so far in Paris, but that's pretty in line with how he's played this year. He faced some minor issues in his most recent match but then crushed his opponent to dispel any rumors of proper struggle.
Dimitrov has been equally impressive, and he has had a tremendous year so far. Both of these players are capable and could go all the way if they win this match, so it will be very interesting to see who can do better.
Sinner is generally considered the better player overall, and he's had more success in recent matches.
The two have played four times in ATP Tour-level matches so far, and the Italian has won three of those matches. The only match Dimitrov won was their first one in 2020 when Sinner was a teenager.
That was a clay match, and it was the only clay match they played. The other three were hard-court matches, and the younger of the two won all of them easily.
Their most recent meeting happened in Miami in the final this year, and Sinner won easily as well, so clearly, it's a matchup that really suits him well. It makes sense because very few can match him in shot-making, and Dimitrov certainly isn't at the top of that list.
Jannik Sinner | Grigor Dimitrov | |
---|---|---|
3 | H2H | 1 |
2 | Rank | 10 |
22 | Age | 33 |
32-2 | 2024 W/L | 28-8 |
222-76 | Career W/L | 441-281 |
The Bulgarian will need to play a perfect match to win, and it's not likely that he will. After all, most of the rallies will be decided from the baseline, and Sinner is far better in that segment. Their most recent Miami match shows that.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in three sets.
