Jannik Sinner got injured during his semi-final match at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters, losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Italian lost only once so far in 2024, and it was against the magical Carlos Alcaraz, who is basically invincible in Indian Wells. This match started shaky for Sinner immediately, as the Greek player did his best to be as annoying as possible.
It worked, as he broke Sinner early for a 3-1 lead, and that was the only break we would see in that opening set. In fact, we didn't see a single break point on either side as Tsitsipas focused on his serve, and Sinner stabilized his game, with the Greek winning the opening set 6-4.
Excitement would return in the second set, as Sinner's solid play from the previous few games resulted in an early break and a good 3-0 lead. A few games after that, both players wasted break chances, which was particularly bothersome for Tsitsipas, who wasn't getting many chances.
He would get a few more at 5-3, but Sinner held to win the second set 6-3. Tsitsipa would waste six break chances in Sinner's final two service games in the second set, which was too much against a player who is arguably the best in the world right now.
The final set would open with an early break for the world no. 2 as well. He was in total control, and Tsitsipas couldn't really find a way to overcome it. He tried and was aggressive, but Sinner just served well enough to keep him away from any chances.
However, in the closing stages of the match, Sinner injured himself, grabbing his leg and calling the physio on multiple occasions, and even a 4-2 lead in the third set wasn't enough for the Italian.
He lost four consecutive games, as Tsitsipas continued to play sensational tennis to achieve his biggest win of the 2024 season, beating Sinner 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the Monte-Carlo Masters final.
