Daniil Medvedev was happy to see Rafael Nadal win his 22nd grand slam trophy as well as Novak Djokovic his 21st.
When it comes to watching and enjoying the sport he loves, the Russian is not one to hold grudges. He realises the respect and admiration the greats deserve.
Despite being on the wrong side of a Nadal win at the 2022 Australian Open, Medvedev is happy to see the Spaniard continuing to add to his ever-growing Grand Slam tally.
This sentiment goes for the Serb who, hot on the heels of Nadal, is looking to become the out-right greatest player to ever grace a tennis court.
Speaking on Djokovic's 21st Grand Slam title which came at Wimbledon, the Russian opened up on how much he enjoyed the game as a lover of the sport:
"It was a great match; at Roland Garros he increased his Grand Slam titles to 22 and I was happy, as I was with Nole (Novak Djokovic), when he made 21 at Wimbledon."
Going on to praise Nadal, Medvedev spoke about the amazing person the Spaniard is, and how it is not all for show:
"To identify Rafa I have one word, amazing. He is an amazing fighter, an amazing warrior and an amazing person, with great mental strength."
Then asked about his own progress and level, Medvedev went on to offer his thoughts on how difficult it is to compare where he is now with his level last year:
"It is difficult to compare my sports form today with last year at this point because every year on the tour something changes. My body is changing, my tennis too; 2021 was good and I am confident that I am starting the best part of my season."
