At the 2022 Roland Garros, Alexander Zverev played a semi-final which will live long in the history books.
Despite both players finding their very best tennis, the quality on display will forever be tinged by the horror injury the German suffered.
Twisting his ankle nastily before screaming in pain and consequently being removed from the court in the wheelchair, the tennis world was fearing the worst for the one-time US Open finalist.
Since that fateful day in May, the German has been far from the tennis courts, focusing on recovering after receiving medical attention from specialists.
However, despite having being side-lined and out of tournament tennis for months, things may be looking up for the youngest of the two Zverev brothers.
Speaking in at interview with RTL, he explained how there is a chance he will back in time for the season's final Grand Slam in New York:
"I still haven't given up on the US Open, and, of course, I want to be part of the Davis Cup for myself. That's a goal because my brother and I are also involved with the organization helped bring the Davis Cup to Hamburg."
Going on to speak about how he is going through the process of recovery from the injury, Zverev said the following:
"It's not difficult at all, I'm also looking forward to this work a bit, it's something completely new. It's clear that I'd rather play the tournament in Hamburg or train on the tennis court, but it's the way it is now. You have to go through it; everyone has their own way and you have to go it. That's part of what I have to do now, and maybe next year, I'll come back even stronge."
