Holger Rune caught a lot of fire in June when he faced Casper Ruud at Roland Garros displaying quite questionable behaviour.
The Danish player was heavily criticised for his actions by many fans and some pundits including Ruud who was very disappointed by what he deemed unprofessional behaviour. The Danish player has had moments like that on the court before which is not unheard of. He is quite a young player and one that plays with a lot of passion as well.
Since losing to Ruud, Rune has yet to win a match. He played six matches since then losing all of them quite easily. Throughout that time, he's been constantly criticised by fans on social media for his childish behaviour and it's obviously affecting him in a bad way. To counter that, Rune took to social media to vent about it:
"In the last few months I have learned a lot, especially off the pitch. Now I understand how things work and how facts can be misinterpreted, twisted and used for the worst purposes by the media. That said, there are some things I would do differently if I could go back, but we can't change the past.
We can only learn the lesson. I will try to manage the world of media in the best possible way. I didn't choose tennis because of fame or media attention, but simply because I love to play. The joy of competing was hampered by the circumstances that arose.
Now I feel at peace. I realized that no one is going to kill my passion for tennis. I love tennis. I have read all your messages and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are the best fans ever."
