Grigor Dimitrov positive about 2022 despite saying he "had better years"

Grigor Dimitrov is still trying to find the form that he had in 2017 when he finished the season as world no. 3 and won three ATP titles.

Since then, the Bulgarian couldn't add any other triumph on the ATP Tour but in 2022, he managed to win the most matches since his best season five years ago. Dimitrov was victorious on 26 occasions and despite not making it past the third round at majors, he knows that his season could be considered as successful compared to the last four years.

"Let's say I had better years, but I'm not allowed to complain I think despite the fact that I felt like I could have had better results on certain tournaments," Dimitrov said on the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast. "But I'm very happy that I put myself again and again out there."

"I'm also trying to build more of a momentum. I think the past three-four months have been really tough in terms of injuries and things I had to take care of. Now, the body feels good, which is pretty good news."

The main focus of the majority of the players is the off-season at the moment as they are trying to prepare for the 2023 ATP season. Speaking about it, the Bulgarian said:

“What I want is still to improve. I’ve done 13 off-seasons, so I think I know the ins and outs pretty good, but I always like to re-assess and think what is our goal this time, and maybe even try some new things.”

Only recently, the 31-year-old Bulgarian admitted that he still believes he can win a Grand Slam title, and he will have a chance to do so in 2023 as his time on the ATP Tour is slowly coming to an end. Before he has a chance to compete at the 2023 Australian Open, he will lead his country as the captain at the inaugural United Cup.
