Former Top 10 player on the ATP Tour, Pablo Carreno Busta, underwent surgery to address an elbow injury that bothered him for much of this year.
Pablo Carreno Busta didn't have a very good 2023 campaign, as it wasn't much of a campaign to begin with. The Spaniard totalled only seven matches this year, winning two before calling time on it recently.
Last year was a pretty solid year for him, with a couple of finals and a big trophy in Canada. He proved best in Montreal, beating Hubert Hurkacz in the final, and that was his biggest career trophy.
Many expected him to continue playing well this year, but an elbow injury proved quite tricky to overcome. He had early exists in Adelaide and Melbourne, with his next attempt at playing being in Rotterdam a month later.
That would be the last time he would play in months as he took time to really try to overcome the injury, but unfortunately, it didn't work. Despite him being cleared to play and returning recently on the Challenger Tour, Carreno Busta wasn't playing well.
His elbow was still bothering him, and he opted for surgery recently. After everything else failed, he had no other option but to do the surgery. He posted an update on social media promising to come back because he still has a lot of desire to play tennis.
We don't know when he'll be back but it's certainly going to be months.
After a very hard year without being able to compete due to an elbow injury, yesterday I went to surgery. From now on it will be a tricky several months of recovery to get back on the tour. But I have a lot of desire & excitement to be back on the courts and continue enjoying tennis.
