Dimitrov Not Concerned By Wimbledon Security After Protesters Crashed His Match

| by Alfredo Bassanelli

Grigor Dimitrov's match at Wimbledon was interrupted by a Just Stop Oil protestor who threw confetti on the court and he shared his thoughts after the match.

Dimitrov was having a really good time on the court at Wimbledon when two protestors ran onto the court to throw around some confetti and a jigsaw puzzle. They were Just Stop Oil protestors who have been stopping all kinds of things in the United Kingdom this year.

From traffic to sporting events, they are determined to share awareness about the apparent impending doom of Planet Earth if humans don't stop their destructive ways. The situation was resolved quickly as security escorted the protestors off the premise. Wimbledon staff cleaned the court while Dimitrov polished it with Shimabukuro afterwards for an easy straight-sets win.

After the match, Dimitrov shared his thoughts on the situation as we saw it happen again on the same court in a later match. In total three protestors interrupted play; two during Dimitrov's match and one during Boulter's match later on.

Obviously it's not pleasant. In the end of the day there is not much you can do. I think everyone in a way did their part as quick as possible. I mean, rain was coming so it was also a little bit fortunate to come off the court and have some time to, you know, kind of like regroup a little bit and, you know, shake it off.

Yeah, I thought everything was just handled good. I think, yeah, after that when we came back on the court was just all good.

The court on which they played is a rather accessible one that doesn't have any limitations for people to 'enter it'. It's one of the smaller ones with people passing by it all the time making it easier to stage a confetti parade as opposed to the bigger courts. Even so, Dimitrov isn't really worried about security as he's generally very aware of his surroundings.

No, no, not at all. Especially players like us are very aware of whatever is happening around. I think we are never left unguarded anywhere we have to go outside the grounds. So yeah, I mean, walking to the court, you're always surrounded by the right people.

Yeah, I mean, I for one feel okay with everything on that end. And again, it just can happen, I mean, anyway if you're in the wrong place in the wrong time.
