Daniil Medvedev had a rough 30 minutes in his opening Den Bosch match against Gilles Simon but he battled back to keep it in two 7-5 6-4.

Medvedev opened the match slowly losing his serve very early in the match to give Simon a 3-1 lead. The French player played earlier today in a match that rain stopped yesterday and eventually that bit of exertion played a bit of a factor in the match. He was playing well early. Simon was serving well and generally frustrated the Russian who struggled to find a good rhythm.

Eventually, Medvedev started playing well but it was still shaky at times. He saved two set points at 5-3 to make it 5-4 and then another one in the next game. Simon wasted valuable chances as he got broke in that one with Medvedev finishing off the opening set with another 2-0 run.

Overall it was a 5-0 run for Medvedev who completely took over against Simon who got too frustrated with his wasted chances. From there the Russian was largely in control of the match. The movement was on point, the timing was there and the serve showed up as well. Medvedev only ran into some trouble at 3-2 having to serve a few break points.

He was able to do so and finish off the match with 6-4. A good result for the Russian who moves to the quarterfinals in Den Bosch. He played once in the quarterfinals before.
