Angelique Kerber is away from tennis due to being pregnant but she's already making plans for a comeback next year.
Prior to the US Open, Kerber made clear that playing two-on-one would not be fair subtly announcing her pregnancy. Since then, she has primarily been preoccupied with off-court activities. She worked on her book and other projects while planning her comeback next year as well.
Her inspiration are many other mothers who came back to tennis such as Williams, Azarenka and even compatriot Tatjana Maria who all offered advice.
“Take your time,” said Kerber when asked about advice she got. "Enjoy the moment now. And then, they said I will feel when the time is there to come back. It’s better to take one month later than one month earlier.”
Kerber is due sometime in March or April with her goal of returning only when she's 100 % fit. She doesn't know or have a target date yet explaining:
“I don’t know what time or which tournament because I really want to take the time. And when I come back, I want to come back 100 percent, fit again and feel good. This is the plan.”
