Andy Murray Provides Positive Injury Update Ahead Of 2023 US Open

Andy Murray didn't play in Cincinnati because of an injury, but he's good to go for the US Open after providing a positive update.

Murray took preparations for the US Open quite seriously as he elected to prepare rigorously back home in the United Kingdom. His efforts were rewarded in Washington with a solid run there, and that was followed up by some good tennis in Toronto as well. Unfortunately, the good vibes didn't last long.

He withdrew from the event prior to his clash with eventual champion Jannik Sinner and skipped over the Cincinnati Masters the following week. He didn't feel right, and he wasn't, as a scan later showed he had a small tear in his abdomen. Ahead of the 2023 US Open, he talked about his injury.

You have to be very careful with that. You can't protect that when you're playing matches. You're having to use that area a lot, especially when you're serving. I had to take six or seven days off from serving and slowly build back up. It has not been perfect in that sense but my ab has been OK.

Murray on his recovery

The ab seems to be fine, and Murray has been fully practicing for a week in New York. The decision to skip over Cincinnati was crucial as it allowed him to focus on healing and still find enough time to practice properly in the past week.

I think I made the right decision [to rest]. The last few days have been good - no issues or any setbacks in the practices. So that's really good.
