Despite winning Wimbledon just a few days ago, Carlos Alcaraz made a return to the courts by playing the 2023 Hopman Cup.
The event is a rather popular one, but the timing of it has been rather poor as most people have tuned out of tennis following Wimbledon. This part of the season is generally a bit lacklustre as most tennis players go on vacation with only a handful of big names playing events.
One of those is actually Carlos Alcaraz, who opted to play at the Hopman Cup. He made a winning start by beating David Goffin in the first match. It was a shaky performance overall, but still still good enough to win the match. Speaking at the event, Alcaraz admitted that he aims to remain humble in spite of his success.
I'm the same person as always, it doesn't matter if I win a lot of titles, if I play well or if I'm number 1 in the world. I am still the same guy who is close to his people and who likes to be at home with the family, for me this is something essential, it is linked to my personality.
I want to be a normal boy, share time with my friends and do the same things that I have been doing these years, I don't want anything to change. I think this is what can make me unique.
He also played his first mixed doubles match ever at the Hopman Cup. It wasn't a very good match as he lost together with Rebeka Masarova to lose Spain the tie against Belgium. Even so, the Spaniard will remain in Nice to play once more as the country takes on Croatia later today.
He will first face Borna Coric, and then we'll see the mixed doubles match as well. Spain need a win to advance to the final of the renewed Hopman Cup.
