Carlos Alcaraz said he wants Roger Federer to attend one of his upcoming games as the legend was in attendance on day two at Wimbledon.
On court one, the number one seed Alcaraz got his Wimbledon campaign off to a winning start as he advanced past Jeremy Chardy in straight sets in round one. However, whilst Alcaraz was competing, another ATP world number one was at Wimbledon as Federer returned to the famous Centre Court to huge cheers as the eight-time SW19 winner took his place in the royal box to watch the action on day two.
Winning Wimbledon is a feat that Alcaraz is likely to target this season after falling in the fourth round in 2022. When asked in his post-match conference about Federer's presence on Centre Court, the 20-year-old said he was in awe of the Swiss former player and hoped to meet the 20-time Grand Slam winner at some stage.
"Yeah, I mean, after the match I was with the phone checking everything I have, all the stories, all the posts. I saw that Roger Federer was here. I was a little bit jealous (smiling). Honestly, I want Roger Federer to watch one of my matches obviously. I wish to talk a little bit with him. For me would be amazing."
"I hope to see him around more than once."
Following his first-round victory, Alcaraz advanced to the second round and he will compete in the second round and hope to build some decent form on grass after winning the Cinch Championships in June.
The current US Open champion is one of the tournament favourites this season, alongside 2022 Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic, who also made a winning start on day one with a straight-sets victory against Pedro Cachin.
"Let's say just stay focus all the time. Here let's say you are not focus one game, as I did in the third set, he break my serve, and you are down, let's say. For me, that's the most under thing, something that I have to learn more, to stay focused all the time, not let him dominate let's say one game or some part of the match. That's something that I have to overcome in my game here on grass."
