Carlos Alcaraz was very disappointed with his most recent performance at the Shanghai Masters, but he's feeling very good about his tennis in general.
Alcaraz didn't have the type of Asian swing he wanted because he'd be going home to Spain empty-handed. There was some hope that he could grab either the China Open trophy or the Shanghai Masters trophy with no Novak Djokovic present; however, that didn't happen.
He was beaten by Jannik Sinner in Beijing, and the Italian went on to win the trophy, actually. He then lost to Grigor Dimitrov in Shanghai, which was another disappointing loss. He's not playing that bad of tennis, which he admitted after the loss to Dimitrov as he underlined that defeats teach you more than wins.
Well, I always say that you can improve more from the defeat than the wins. After this trip, you know, I took a lot of lessons, you know, to improve, to be better. As I said in Beijing, you know, I had to work on a few things to beat the best guys.
After this loss, I mean, it's not too much time ago, so I have to think about it, but I will take a lot of lessons to improve in the practice before the tournament that I have ahead.
You know, I think I'm playing great tennis. Even if I didn't make the quarterfinal or losing in the semifinal, I think I'm playing great tennis. So I have to practice a hundred percent in these weeks before Basel, that's the next tournament for me, so I'll try to make my best in that tournament.
He's now moving into indoor tennis which hasn't been the best for him in the past, but perhaps he'll do better this time around. He's going to need a special effort to try and dethrone Djokovic from the number-one spot.
