Carlos Alcaraz won both singles at the 2023 Hopman Cup, but he failed to translate that to the mixed doubles losing both.
Alcaraz couldn't help his country to advance to the Hopman Cup final, but he still provided some solid entertainment for the fans gathered there. The Spaniard opted to play at the event despite a rather short turnaround from the Wimbledon final. Some might say it was ill-advised, but he wanted to keep his promise and experience the atmosphere.
He won both of his singles matches. The first one against David Goffin proved quite tricky, much more so than the one against Coric, even though both matches went to three sets. The doubles were a different story. Alcaraz paired up with Masarova, and they lost easily in their first match against Goffin and Mertens.
The second one against Vekic and Coric was very competitive, almost a win, but the Croatians ultimately prevailed. It was a solid event for him overall but he regrets losing both doubles as he really wanted to win them.
Honestly, I wanted to win both doubles. I always want to win the tournaments I play. We only play [these] tournaments once a year. I’m really disappointed not to have won the mixed doubles.
While he wasn't able to get the doubles to go his way Alcaraz still enjoyed the experience of playing at the event, one he watched growing up. Overall a good experience for him as he's not used to play these kinds of events.
It was cool. It’s nice to have the experience of playing mixed doubles and mixed tournaments. It was also nice to share this event with Rebeka. It was really cool. We’re not really used to playing this kind of tournament. I felt the energy, I felt the love, it was incredible. I enjoyed playing here from day one. I’m going to keep it in my head.
