For the first time in four years, the ATP Tour will make its long-awaited pitstop at the 2023 China Open Beijing during the Asian swing.
This year's event will be the 22nd edition of the ATP China Open which boasts a world-class entry list. Main draw action will commence on August 28th until October 4th and will be played at the famous Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center - the venue for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Historically, the China Open has always served as a preparatory tournament for a pivotal end-of-the-season indoor swing at tournaments in Shanghai, Paris, and the ATP Finals in Turin. This year's edition will be spearheaded by the reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz, who will be on his first trip to Beijing.
Nine of the world's Top 10 players will make up the 32-man singles field, with World No. 1 and six-time former champion Novak Djokovic being the only one to miss out.
A host of top players will also be making their debut appearance at the China Open with Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune, and Jannik Sinner all expected to challenge the top-seeded Alcaraz. While Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was the vanquished finalist during the last staging of the event will be the tournament's sixth seed.
Alexander Zverev who is on the cusp of a top-10 return will also be in the main draw. Zverev is a two-time semifinalist at the China Open. Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov is also part of an event replete with talent everywhere. The 2016 finalist will embark on his eighth trip to the Chinese capital.
Four players are expected to join from qualifying while a further four wild cards will be named by the tournament in the coming weeks, with 18-year-old Chinese Next Gen star Shang Juncheng reportedly in contention for a main draw wild card.
Two of China's top-ranked players - Zhizhen Zhang and Yibing Wu - will miss out as the tournament will overlap and run concurrently with the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
