2022 Italian Open ATP Prize Money & Points Overview

| by Nurein Ahmed

The 2022 Italian Open will take place in Rome from May 8th to 15th and details of prize money have been revealed.

It's one of three ATP Masters 1000 tournaments traditionally held on European clay, and it's a key stop for the top-ranked stars who want to win the French Open.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal account for 15 of the previous 17 title wins in Rome, and they will be the leading favorites to triumph again this year following the release of the entry list.

Alexander Zverev (2017 champion) is one of only two players to have won the Italian Open men's singles tournament since 2005. He broke the hegemony enjoyed by Nadal and Djokovic and will be back to have a shot for a second title.

Last year, Nadal reigned supreme over Djokovic, but the player with all the momentum is Carlos Alcaraz, who just broke into the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings by winning the Barcelona and Madrid double before heading to Rome.

In recent weeks, Stefanos Tsitsipas has been in excellent form (defended Monte Carlo title), while Andrey Rublev won the 2022 Serbia Open, defeating Djokovic in the final. Casper Ruud, a clay-court master, will also attempt to achieve success in the Eternal City.

This year's prize money has been confirmed at €4,332,325, which is quite substantial because players will be rewarded handsomely for their efforts if they progress in every round until the final.

The tournament will reward first-round losers with 21,650€ and 10 points. Going a round further will almost double their pay, as they'll make 39,070€ in addition to 45 points.

From the quarterfinal stage onwards, players can count their numbers in six figures. This year's champion in Rome will bank a cool 836.355€ and will receive the full 1000 points on offer. The beaten finalist will make at least half of that, equating to 456,720€, and will get 500 points.

The table below provides a complete breakdown of prize money and points allocation for the 2022 Italian Open.
