Bianca Andreescu has praised Netflix's Break Point docuseries, which captured the successes and low points of several ATP and WTA players.
Andreescu spoke out against critics of Break Point and the Canadian player shared her support for the program's release. In particular, Andreescu explained that the series gives regular and hardcore tennis fans an eye-opening experience to see what life is really like for professional tennis players competing at the top level.
"I didn't really understand the backlash that it got. I think it gives great insight on what's going on on tour,"
On a personal level, Andreescu sympathised with the focus players and the difficulties they went through during the five-part docuseries. The world number 37 believes Break Point reflected a lot of the real feelings that players experience whilst playing on tour.
"You could see the hardships, you can see the joys. And watching it made me very emotional as well, because I mean, I've been in some of those people's shoes,"
Part one of the Netflix series follows the progress of nine different players through behind-the-scenes footage and interviews. It focussed on men's players including Nick Kyrgios, Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger-Aliassime, while Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur and Maria Sakkari featured heavily from the women's game.
The first part of Break Point was released in January, just before the start of the Australian Open. Part two is due to be released in June and it will feature more high-profile players, including Stefanos Tsitsipas and Iga Swiatek.
Andreescu recently played at the 2023 Australian Open but was eliminated in the second round by Cristina Bucșa. The 2019 US Open winner returned to action in the Abu Dhabi Open this week before she was knocked out in the round of 32 by Yulia Putintseva.
