The US Open will stage a charity event for Ukraine just like last year, with Carlos Alcaraz, Elina Svitolina, and others taking part.
The war in Ukraine is still going on, and the need for help is as needed as ever. Just like last year, the 2023 US Open edition will see the event hold an exhibition event for the people in the country, which will see Elina Svitolina take part.
The Ukranian has been at the forefront of many US-based charity events over the year, including the one held at the Charleston Open earlier this year. She's been a vocal ambassador for her country, urging people to help wherever she's been.
The charity event will be part of the US Open fan week and will take place on August 23rd. Besides Svitolina, we'll also see Carlos Alcaraz, John McEnroe, Frances Tiafoe, and Christopher Eubanks take part. More players will be announced in the coming weeks.
Last year's charity event raised a whopping 2 million dollars for relief efforts with players such as Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff taking part. Ukrainians present at the event included Dayana Yastremska, Katarina Zavatska, Daria Snigur and former player Sergiy Stakhovsky.
I'm incredibly proud of the way we were able to use the global platform of the US Open to increase the worldwide tennis community’s support for the Ukrainian people. Our sport continued to rally for our friends in Ukraine these past three weeks, and we owe a tremendous thanks to our tournament partners, our private donors and passionate fans for showing the people of Ukraine that we continue to stand with them in their time of need.
The hope is for this event to prove a similar success.
