The second Grand Slam of the season, 2022 Roland Garros, will take place from May 22nd until June 5th, with the prize money for both ATP and WTA players equalling more than €40 million.
Grand Slam tournaments are rarely skipped by players because there are only four majors per tennis season in which 128 players compete in the main draw and receive the largest cut of the prize pool.
They're also the only tournaments in which the winner receives 2000 points, the most of any tournament. The 2022 Roland Garros will be no exception, with a long list of notable names on the entry list for the 2022 French Open.
Following Rafael Nadal's wins in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, Novak Djokovic won the tournament in 2021 and will defend his title this year. But it won't be easy for the Serbian, as the 13-time Roland Garros champion, will be attempting to win his 14th Grand Slam title and 22nd overall.
In the women's competition, world number one Iga Swiatek will attempt to capture her second French Open title. Her first triumph was surprising, but now, she's entering the tournament as one of the favorites.
All of the favorites will be eyeing the top row of the prize money and points distribution, as both the best man and the best woman over the fortnight in Paris will get 2,000 ranking points and €2,200,000.
The runner-ups will also be nicely awarded, with €1,100,000 and 1,200 ATP ranking points for men, and 1,300 WTA ranking points for women.
Those who lose in the first round will get €62,000 and 10 ranking points for both Tours. The reward for winning quickly escalates, as a second-round exit gets players €86,000 and 45 ATP points, or 70 WTA points, while a third-round loss is rewarded with 90 ATP ranking points, or 130 WTA ranking points, and €125,800.
Players that reach the fourth round in the French capital will get €220,000 each, and 180 points for men, while women will get 240 points. All quarter-finalists will earn €380,000 on top of 360 points (ATP) or 430 points (WTA). Semi-finalists at the 2022 Roland Garros will get €600,000 and 720 points will await for men and 780 for women.
