Clara Tauson is a Danish professional tennis player who was born on December 21, 2002, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Tennis has run through her family from a young age, with her uncle being the former professional Michael Tauson. After starting the sport at age 6, it became evident by 10 she had a special talent.

This then translated into a successful junior career, with the Dane being the top seed and winning the Australian Open Girls’ tournament in 2019. This same year saw her gain her first taste of the WTA tour, with her main draw debut coming at the Samsung Open in Lugano, Switzerland.

Despite losing in the first round to Rodina, it was a hard-fought loss, with the Dane putting up a valiant fight to lose the third set 7-5. 2020 continued along the same vein for her, with her battling her way through qualifying to earn herself a spot on the Grand Slam stage.

Despite losing once again in the first round, it was a good stepping stone for future results at this level. 2021 brought yet more wins for Tauson, and they were certainly memorable for the youngster. After coming through the qualifying at Lyon, she went on to win five consecutive matches to win the competition, defeating fellow qualifier Golubic in the final in straight sets.

She was not done for silverware either, with the Luxembourg Open proving key to her in getting her second WTA title under her belt. It was certainly a week she could be proud of after she overcame number three seed and Grand Slam champion Jelena Ostapenko in a final that went the distance.

Come 2022, she was ready to kick on even further, and in the year-opening Grand Slam, she reached what remains to be the furthest she has gone at that level. Beating Sharma and Kontaveit in a run that gave her a match-up with Collins, Tauson’s third-round performance was a performance to write home about.

This success soon translated into concrete numbers in the rankings, with the young Dane breaking into the Top 35 in February 2022.
