Caroline Wozniacki found something this week at the 2024 Bad Homburg Open, as she won two matches in a row to book the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 tournament.
The Danish player hasn't played much tennis this year, and when she did play, she didn't show what she can truly do on a tennis court. This week is the first time since March that she has won two matches in a row, and they were two very good wins.
The Dane took down Elina Svitolina in the opening round, which was an important win for her, and now she's followed it up against Veronika Kudermetova in the second round of the tournament.
Things are working out for her in the German city. She is playing her signature smart tennis while hitting the ball really well. Both the serve and the return have been working really well and giving players a lot of problems.
In fairness, both Svitolina and Kudermetova didn't look at their peak during the matches, and that was enough for a very focused Wozniacki to take advantage of. The first set was a 6-2 win behind amazing hitting from the Danish player.
The Russian was under a lot of pressure and didn't really know what to do with it, causing the quick loss of a set. The second set didn't offer anything different, as Kudermetova lost her serve once more, falling behind 0-3.
All match long, Kudermetova struggled to create any pressure, but midway through the second, she did and immediately broke her opponent's serve. The run didn't last too long, as the Russian ran into issues fairly quickly again.
The former number one was just too good, winning the match 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals. Next up is Emma Navarro, a player very similar to Wozniacki.
